William Berry Taylor was a lawyer and land speculator who migrated from Botetourt County, Virginia, to Shelby County, Kentucky, in the late eighteenth century. After migrating, Taylor continued to practice law in Virginia as well as Kentucky. Taylor was part of the influential Taylor family that included Colonel Richard Taylor, the James Taylor's, and Zachary Taylor. Archibald Stuart was born near Staunton, Va. in 1757. He was educated at the College of William and Mary and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He fought at Guilford Court House and in the Yorktown Campaign. Stuart studied law under Thomas Jefferson and served in the Virginia House of Delegates.
